THINK FAST: The Epic World Cup is the world's fastest XC race bike on smooth to moderately technical courses thanks to its unrivalled combination of efficiency, control and lightweight. World champion Christopher Blevins put it best: “This thing gives me everything I could want from a hardtail, plus the control and capabilities of a full suspension.” All it took to create this speed machine was a fully integrated development approach, the invention of a radically new shock absorber and four decades of experience in winning off-road races.

REFERENCE FRAMEWORK: To deliver maximum speed through relentlessly efficient power transfer and precise handling, our engineering team set and achieved new standards in torsional and BB stiffness. This achievement required an integrated development approach that combined a structurally superior double diamond layout with a shock absorber in the top tube, finished with the most advanced composite layout in Specialized's history.

SHOCKING FAST: The Specialized Ride Dynamics team has conceived and developed a revolutionary shock absorber technology for the Epic World Cup that gives the rider the efficiency and quick response of a hardtail, PLUS the control, capability and momentum of a full suspension - all with simple adjustment. Co-developed with RockShox, the SID Deluxe WCID shock uses unique, independently adjustable positive and negative air springs to deliver the sought-after ‘snap’ of a hardtail, combined with off-road forgiveness and the ability to easily adjust settings to suit a specific trail or tune to the rider's preferences and feel. Set it firmly and it rides like a hardtail, or open it up and you have a debris-crushing ripper. But you are not limited to ‘open and closed’. The easy adjustment allows the rider to choose from a spectrum from hard to soft.

EXCEPT THEIR CATEGORY: The Epic World Cup has a 75 mm rear suspension travel and offers the control and capabilities of a bike with a much longer suspension travel. Because it is designed to be ridden at or near maximum travel, it delivers the same positive suspension travel as a bike with 100 mm of travel and 25% sag. To further optimise the suspension's performance, the Specialized Ride Dynamics team tuned the spring rate to be relatively flat in the middle of the stroke, so that most of the shock is absorbed like a bike with a longer suspension travel. Due to its large size, the custom-made Mega Jounce Bumper is an ‘industry first’ and plays a crucial role in smoothly absorbing the biggest shocks.

HAVE WE GONE MAD? OURSELVES WELL: While the groundbreaking new SID Deluxe WCID shock offers a unique combination of rear support and flexibility, the BRAIN is still alive and well in the fork. Position-Sensitive technology allows riders to drop 15 mm into the fork for a balanced ride, with smooth flexibility on small bumps and a firm pedalling platform without the need for a remote control or levers.

THE WEIGHT IS FORWARD: With a frame weight of just 1915g (painted with shock absorber and all hardware), the Epic World Cup beats its lightest competitors. This translates into faster acceleration, more efficient climbing and more agile handling. And it all adds up to speed. We achieved the feather-light weight and monstrous stiffness of the Epic WC by applying what we learnt during the development of our Aethos, the lightest production road bike frame ever made, especially the advanced composite lay-up and tube shapes.

The all-new Epic World Cup frame features Ride Dynamics Developed suspension technology and an optimised 75 mm rear suspension. Thanks to its shock absorber technology, the Epic World Cup offers unmatched pedalling efficiency and is ready for the roughest descents you can throw at it - without the need for a lockout switch.

Derived from a long World Cup tradition, the hand-built Roval Control carbon wheels feature a modern hookless rim with an internal width of 29 mm, maximising strength, ride quality and durability while keeping weight to a minimum.
